The DaVinci Code

Dan Brown

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.

In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

THE DA VINCI CODE heralds the arrival of a new breed of lightning-paced, intelligent thriller…utterly unpredictable right up to its stunning conclusion.

My Take:

I was lucky enough to read "The DaVinci Code" right when it came out, before the HUGE craze. I was able to form an honest opinion, not swayed by the media frenzy. I have to say that I absolutely loved it. Its excited, informative, and it opened you up to the possibility of new ideas. I don't agree with the conclusion the book came to, but I am not offended as many people are. I just enjoyed it for what it was, a book in the FICTION section of the book store. Dan Brown wasn't trying to rewrite the world's religions, he was just putting out new and interesting ideas. I would recommend this book to anyone the like adventure and mystery. The character of Robert Langdon is wonderful. He is surprisingly easy to relate to, which I would say it a difficult task for a writer to achieve, as not many people can relate to a super intellectual top Professor from Harvard. I give "The DaVinci Code" a 1, Buy at Full Price. If you haven't already read it...enjoy!

Looking for more action? Definitely check out The Jester, The Lake House, and The Book of Names

Do you agree with my Review? Do you think I'm totally off base? I'd love to hear from you wither way, be sure to leave a comment and tell me what you thought of the book!

If this book were a movie (which it has been made into :) it would be rated PG-13 for adult themes throughout.

My only complaint about this book (and other books by Dan Brown)is the uber suspense (which sometimes becomes too much) he builds up. Just when it get's exciting on Robert's plot, the chapter ends and... Gaaah! It switches characters in the next chapter. You have to read another chapter or two before it switches back to Robert again. :)
