I Sit in a BEA Armchair Soaked with Tears...

...tears of lament over my lack of adequate fundage to attend the actual BEA :)  So if you are broke like me, or bogged down with the other stuff life'll throw at you, sit down and enjoy Armchair BEA.  This is my first time participating, and as the first post, we are supposed to introduce ourselves, so here is some random junk about me:

  1. I like to use my wedding pictures whenever possible, though it was 5 years ago because that was the last time I think I was photogenic.
  2. I have social anxiety (one of the things that drew me into the anonymity of the blogosphere) but I am KILLER at hiding it.  I can put on a charming, funny face while (usually unwillingly) in social situation, but inside I feel like I'm gonna toss my cookies.  So next year, when you see me at BEA and I appear cool as a cucumber, you'll know that I'm just acting well and putting all of my years in musical theater to good use.  Mom would be so proud!
  3. Now, seemingly at odds with my last random factoid, I talk a lot.  I mean, a LOOOOOOOT.  But on the plus side, I'm pretty good at editing myself around people who aren't used to the sheer volume of words I can spit out, I'm pretty funny and I'm quite entertaining with my facial expressions, etc.
  4. I started my book blog because I realized I was yapping incessantly about every book I read to my poor unfortunate husband, mom, dad, siblings, and even 3 year old.  I already had a personal blog, so I decided to branch and out blog about books instead.  I have so enjoyed finding like minded book weirdos (I mean that as the highest compliment), you all feed my book addiction and I love you for it!
So that's it for now, I'm looking forward to participating in the rest of Armchair BEA, more than that I'm really really looking forward to the day when I can go to the real thing!  But for now, let's all console ourselves in our tear soaked armchairs :)

Nice to meet you.

I'm like you, I can talk a mile a minute and act like I'm cool, but really shaking inside and when I walk away I feel like I've just run a marathon. That is until I get to know someone well, then I just go and go and don't shut up.

I hope to get to real BEA sometime, but for now, I join you in sobbing in my armchair.

@barmybex- well, since we are 2 of a kind, lets be sure to meet up at the real thing some day and help each other play it cool!

I'm in total agreement on the first two. It's amazing what a professional photographer can do. And yes, I feel that way in most social situations.

I am chatty myself and it's usually book related. :)

Your wedding photo is awesome.

Thank you for your follow. I'm for sure going to be following your blog as well. There's so much here!! Oh, and I love the name. :)

This is my first armchair bea as well. I tend to think that a lot of bloggers have social anxiety... We express ourselves better in words I think... Thanks for stopping by the blog, and I know what you mean when you say wedding photos are the last time you were photogenic...I felt the same way until my recent professional photos with "wiggles"

No tears for the book buff... you have us at the Armchair BEA... =) well, hopefully the funds will be in your favor for 2012 and im crosing my fingers for you! =D It's good to have a lot of words to say, and perfect for a blogger... im an introvert and it takes quite a bit a while to get me to be off my shyness. i enjoy meeting people who are able to divert their inner shy-ness, i envy them at times. but you come to see they are wonderful people and from what im reading from your intro you are ^_^
I hope to be able to go to BEA NY as well, and when i do, i would be honored to meet you there. You can break the ice with your upbeat facial expressions lol
Im glad to have the chance to meet through Armchair BEA and I hope your enjoying it too. When you have the chance, i hope you come pay me a visit as well.

Thank you for the visit to my blog! I have realized through blogging that it is my way of talking, after convincing myself I was shy through the years. We ARE social!

I'm not officially participating in Armchair BEA (too lazy), but I'm celebrating by visiting some new-to-me blogs. I'm always excited to find new ones!

BTW: Your wedding picture is gorgeous :)

I think we were separated at birth (well, except for the fact that you're younger than I am)... :)

Happy reading! Looking forward to your reviews!

Nice to meet you. I hope you enjoy Armchair BEA and it gets you through to next year (when all of our schedules and finances let us attend, right?).

I think of myself on my wedding day being the last time I was photogenic as well! So funny you said that!

Gorgeous wedding photo! Though I doubt you're any less photogenic now. We girls are so tough on ourselves.

I'm on the socially anxious side myself, though I'm less good at hiding it =o) If you ever see me at the "real" BEA, I'll be the one with the panicked look on my face. Please be kind to me.

Meg @ A Bookish Affair said...

I fully understand hiding fear when talking to other people. Fake it til you make it, I say!

I loved my wedding pictures too. I'm divorced now, but I still looked good that day! ;o)

Thanks for visiting and following my blog!! Much appreciated. Happy BEA!

Very nice to meet you! I completely agree that blogs are a great way to talk about books as much as you want and also deal with social anxiety. Hopefully I'll meet you next year at BEA. :)

That's a lovely wedding photo! It's funny that you said you talk so much because I feel the same way. I was just thinking that I think it would be a good idea if I could tone down the talkativeness but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it, especially when I talk about things that I get excited about like books. See you around ArmchairBEA this week. :)

Your wedding picture is so beautiful, though I feel sure you are still wonderfully photogenic.

Amazing coincidence, I'm quite the loner and not exactly at ease in many social situations. Yet, like you, I cover so well I am constantly referred to as a 'real people person.' The envelope please!

Brodie said...

Your wedding photo is beautiful! You both look so happy <3

Oh I am totally with you on #2 and #3! I am ridiculously talented at talking, but I too suffer from social anxiety quite often. I love meeting all these amazing bloggers participating in Armchair BEA!

aww...don't be too sad. you looked great in your wedding picture! glad we have other people to do armchair bea with. :)

*chuckles* I talk nineteen to the dozen too!! But, in the cyber world I do tend to be a bit reticent...:)

It's so fun to "meet" everybody! You look so happy in that picture.
And yay for like minded weirdos. :)

Jillian said...

That wedding picture... I don't know you and have never even seen your blog until today but I am in love with it!

Jenn said...

Last time you were photogenic? Please! If you looked like that then, you remain one of those girls who makes the rest of us feel slightly more ugly then we thought we were. :) - beautiful picture!

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

Ha! Great intro! I also have a touch of social anxiety but I'm not as great hiding it. Instead I am obviously the most socially awkward gal at the party (if I'm even there). Somehow not the case online where I'm free as a bird--think I probably overshare most days. ;)

See your camping this weekend. Have fun!! I can't wait to go camping again but we have a small window here in Dallas--like March or October and that's it.

Best!
