The Best For You

Kelsey Stewart

Adoption is about love for the child, not that the child was not wanted,  This heart warming book is aimed to help children and parents understand what one birth mother was thinking when she decided to place her child for adoption.  Written in her perspective, she tells her child the reasons why she chose adoption.  A great conversation starter for parents, or companions book for adopted children to discuss with other children, this is a unique journey for any child of any age.

My Take:

The Best for You is a heartfelt message for adopted children.  I can't say the book is the most professionally done, or has the best illustrations I've ever seen.  But you know what?  I think this book is the better for it.  The imperfections, and handmade feel, make this book feel much more personal.  As a mom who is considering adopting, I can say this is a book I would love my adopted blessings to have.  The book illustrates that many moms who give up their children do so because they love them, not because they didn't want them.  I think this is such an important fact for an adopted child to know.  This is a wonderful book, and easy to rate.  If this is applicable to your life, definitely 1, Pay Full Price.

Do you agree with my review?  Do you think I'm totally off base?  Either way I'd love to hear from you, be sure to leave a comment and tell me how you feel.

I love to read...and am always interested in finding new books/authors to read. I've often thought about joining a book club, but would really love to join an online book club. Do you have any advice on any that are worthwhile?

I've actually been writing a few posts lately on my site talking about books I enjoy and comparing the iBooks app & the Kindle app for my iPhone - do you use either? I never read using a reader before, but lately it's been so much more convenient for me - though I miss actually holding a book so from time to time I actually buy a book, too.

I'll definitely be following now, though to see what you have to say about different books...

Thanks for the review. Wonderful as always. As one who has adopted, I must say, you don't see these books often. They're little gems. Though, I have become jaded due to my personal situation, and just hope that this book, like the others was not authored to help the biological mother overcome her own, person, grief. I hope it was sincere, and assuming that it is, will have to give this one a gander. These books, when honest, are impossible to find, as are those written by the adoptive family, illustrating that one can love an adopted child, just as much, if not more than their own. Thanks again!

I have a Kindle and I LOVE it! It has so many great features, it is cost effective (I have downloaded over 100 books from Amazon for free!) there is a built in dictionary, you can make notes in it which is great for reviewing books, and it can also read to you, which is good, because I have an hour commute every day to work. I do still love to read good ol fashioned books. I get them from a local used book store. I don't think e-readers will ever replace books completely because they are still so much fun to read. Anyway, I highly recommend the Kindle.

This is a book on a theme I've never read on before. It's nice that a point made for the mothers who give up their kids for adopting too. Most people would talk about adopted kids themselves.

Great site! I love books - read English at London- but my tastes have got more and more low brow as I've got older and now they"re really young too my tastes since I adopted my little girl. I wrote a review
of the wonderful Charlie and Lola books on my site http://methusulamum.blogspot.com just yesterday.

Re this book- to be honest I've been very disappointed by the books for children on adoption and , as a single adopter they are often very inappropriate as they emphasise that the adoptive family is both mum and dad- but I will ask my local library to get it and have a look at it that way. It is amazing to me that you can ask a library to buy books for one! I love libraries!!!

I've found most of the books that

What a wonderful website you have! I'll definitely be back! As for this book, it sounds like a great addition to a genre that does not have too many good books. I'd love to read it!

Have a great day,

Olivia

This is a fabulous book by Kelsey Stewart - she also has a great blog about her feelings as a birth mom. Another book for kids on the birth mom point of view is Never Never Never will she stop loving you by Jolene Durant. I highly recommend both books

My daughter was adopted when she was 8 months old from China. She is almost 7 and has begun to ask some hard questions. This book sounds like it would be helpful in answering her.
